Pickleball court concrete — what the specifications require
A regulation pickleball court is 20 feet by 44 feet (880 sq ft) for the playing surface, with recommended buffer zones extending the total footprint to approximately 30 by 60 feet for safe play. Two adjacent courts on one slab is the most common residential installation: 60 by 60 feet, or 3,600 square feet of concrete.
The concrete must be flat to within 1/8 inch across a 10-foot straightedge (F-number FL25 or better is the industry target for sport surfaces). Florida's sandy soil and heat cycles make achieving and maintaining this flatness harder than in northern climates. We use a reinforced slab design appropriate for your soil conditions and a 4,000 PSI mix minimum.
The finished concrete is then coated with an acrylic sport surface system (we apply or coordinate with a sport surface specialist) in the USAPA-approved line configuration. Fencing, post installation, and net systems are available as add-ons.
What's included in a pickleball court installation
Site Prep and Grading
Clearing, grading, and compaction to achieve proper slope (minimum 1% for drainage away from any structure). Sandy soil stabilization where needed.
Sub-Base
4-inch (minimum) compacted base material. For sport surfaces, we compact in 2-inch lifts to ensure uniform density and reduce long-term settlement.
Reinforced Concrete Slab
4,000 PSI concrete at 4-5 inch depth with #4 rebar on 18-inch grid, or post-tension cable design depending on soil conditions and budget.
Surface Flatness
We use laser-guided screed rails and power screed equipment to achieve F-number flatness appropriate for sport surface application.
Control Joints
Saw-cut control joints placed outside playing areas where possible, or coinciding with court lines to minimize visual impact during play.
Permit Coordination
We pull required Duval County permits for sport court construction. Most residential courts require a permit. HOA architectural review coordination is your responsibility to initiate.
